A man eloped with a married woman.

When he eloped —

how he eloped is, first the two of them paddy-danced.

They paddy-danced and they were together.

They paddy-danced, and

they got along —

they got on, and he took her away.

They went and stayed at his house — they stayed at his house.

Then the first husband looked for his wife.

"Where did she go?" — he looked for her, they were all together — who all — his aunts, his nephews, etc.

His maternal uncles were there, when they asked them,

"Those two — so-and-so took her away! So and so eloped with her and took her away!"

"Oh! He took her!"

That was the situation.

They went on investigating,

and they found out.

When they found out that she had been taken away,

"Well, if he took her we have to look for her.

Where did they go? Where did they take her? Did they take her down? Did they take her up?" they said,

and they went on looking, and

it turned out they had taken her across over there. They had taken her

and hidden her in a house over there.

They had hidden her, but there there was one — there was a scout.

That scout had tracked them down.

He tracked them down, and when he had found out where they were, [the others said,] "Well,

if we go by day, they'll see us.

So now we must go by night.

We must go by night and catch them," they decided in council.

"Who should we send there at night to catch him?

Do we have anyone there?" — "My aunt lives there," said the boy (?i.e. the husband).

"Well, if your aunt lives there, you go secretly to your aunt and tell her.

If you go to your aunt, she'll tell you —

where they are sleeping — if they are sleeping upstairs or downstairs, or wherever they are sleeping.

Once you've traced out the place where they are sleeping, you tell us,"

they said, and they sent him off, the boy. The boy went

and asked his aunt,

he asked her and she said "Over there!

They're sleeping on the upper storey, the adulterers," said his aunt.

Then he came back and told his friends, his brothers, his father's people, his paternal uncles — he told them all.

"OK! In that case, let's go!

"Now we'll go and just when we arrive down below — we'll go in a way that we won't be seen and

you — you only — go to your aunt's house and hide.

Then later, when it gets dark, let's catch him and tie him up."

They met and that is what they decided.

They held a council and went off,

and they arrived at the couple's house at sunset.

They arrived at sunset,

and they stayed in someone's house.

When people asked them, "Where are you all going?" — "We're heading down there,"

they lied to them.

The boy was hiding in his aunt's house.

[[He hid and later his aunt told him all, where they (the couple) were sleeping —

she had already told him before — she told him again.]]

They got together and they went by night and caught the man.

Four or five of them got together and held him.

They tied him up. When they tied him up — when they had him tied up —

the situation [in the eyes of the neighbors] was that some people had come down from somewhere for some reason and had done all these things and had tied a man up —

"Hey, why did you tie that man up?"

"He brought someone else's wife here!"

They had come to catch him and they had him tied up.

Then his village headman heard,

and the headman arrived.

The headman arrived

the brothers (of the husband) all came in a group.

"Why have you all gotten together and come here?"

"This man stole my wife and brought her here. He stole her and brought her here.
